The bank’s Beyond proposition combines relationship support, cards, payments and business tools for Kuwait’s start-ups and SMEs
For start-ups, the banking problem is not only about access to an account but also whether that account can support the daily rhythm of a growing business – cash deposits, supplier transfers, payroll, invoicing, government payments, card controls and quick solutions when something needs fixing. Kuwait’s Warba Bank has addressed that gap through Beyond, a dedicated business banking solution created for entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs.
Launched in 2023 under the corporate banking group, Beyond was designed as a separate business banking arm rather than a standard account with added services. The proposition combines relationship-led support, branch access and digital tools through a dedicated mobile app and online portal.
The offer is built around recurring business tasks. Beyond includes four cards designed for different uses: debit, deposit, government and prepaid. The debit card supports withdrawals, deposits, online payments and POS purchases. The deposit card is designed for daily cash deposits. The government card supports payments to government entities, POS terminals and petrol stations. The prepaid card supports local and international purchases, online recharge, rewards and discounts.
Enhanced services
Beyond’s digital layer adds salary transfers, bulk transfers, invoice payment links, approvals, card management, and role and user management. Its Marketplace feature extends the proposition beyond banking by giving businesses access to providers in areas such as marketing, accounting, logistics, office space, digital services and training.
The adoption statistics give the case its weight. After two years, Warba reported an active Beyond portfolio of 2,028 businesses. It also reported 1,376 debit cards, 645 prepaid cards, 282 deposit cards and 202 government cards, equal to 2,505 cards across the four product types. The invoice payment link feature adds another measure of usage, with 831 firms actively using the service and 82,254 invoices sent and successfully paid through Beyond mobile and online banking.
Versatile platform
The strength of Beyond is that it treats start-up banking as an operating need and not just a product need. The proposition brings together relationship support, payments, cards, payroll, invoicing, cash handling, rewards and third-party business services into one structure. That gives it relevance to early-stage companies whose banking needs can change quickly as they move from set-up to trading, hiring, collecting payments and managing suppliers.
The partnership model also supports the start-up case. Network International and Mastercard supported the cards infrastructure, Kuwait Airways supported the rewards proposition, and K-Post supported card delivery. Warba also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sabah Al Ahmad Centre for Giftedness and Creativity (SACGC) by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) for SME-related initiatives, including support for Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to attend the Web Summit Qatar event in 2025.
For a start-up banking award, the important point is not that Warba offered a business account. It is that Beyond was built around the operational details that shape a young company’s banking experience after the account is opened. The result is a proposition that connects access, service, payments and business support in a way that is directly aligned with the needs of entrepreneurs and SMEs.
