    EDITOR’S NOTE

A hearty welcome once again from Private Banker International as we enter the Global Wealth Awards 2023.

This has been one of the most important years for the private banking sector. Historians will look back on it as a turning point.

The biggest story of the year was Credit Suisse’s collapse and its rescue by UBS. With a newly merged megabank, the Swiss and worldwide markets need to adapt. Not only is there a bigger serious player on the market with scale and assets, but there is now market share up for grabs.

Another lesson to be learned is to not get complacent. If a monolith such as Credit Suisse can go down, anyone can. Just ask Silicon Valley Bank.

Following the years of Covid-19 and lockdown, clients want a return and they want it now. Do we look at traditional investments such as equity, or the new fancy propositions such as ESG and blockchain? Can we actually be ESG-compliant and invest in blockchain at the same time?

This year saw an incredibly high standard of submissions Congratulations to all the winners, thank you to all the nominees and we will see you next year.

    Editor’s Note

Welcome to the 2022 edition of the Private Banker International Global Wealth Awards a year that has seen some of the strongest submissions ever.

Despite all of the geopolitical worry of recent times, you can always depend on the private banking sector to stay firm and meet client needs. This year, firms have gone above and beyond to satisfy clients on their terms. Wherever, whenever, whatever, private banks need to deliver that.

What do HNWIs want from their adviser? It cannot be the same as pre-pandemic as the sector embraced digital solutions to suit clients. Clients have responded well and new relationships have been formed. More are now comfortable with jumping onto a laptop to discuss portfolios rather than needing the comfort and personality of face-to-face.

Ethics and philanthropy were huge topics during the pandemic, which has resulted in a surge in interest in services such as ESG. Being responsible with investments can now provide healthy returns, but for how much longer? Will clients have to make a choice in the near future?

Hard decisions are on the horizon and one wrong step could be fatal. These awards highlight the best of the best in the industry, those looking towards the future. It was a true joy looking through submissions and nominations.

Congratulations to our winners and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.

  • 2021 Special Report

    Editor’s Note

Another year, another PBI Global Wealth Awards.

2021 was one of the strongest years on record for this event in terms of submissions. At first, I was surprised, considering that many of the banks that submitted has done so after a year or more of Covid-related disruptions.

However, the sector, a behemoth of initiative, cannot be derailed. In terms of technology, digital, products, services, engagement, institutions went above and beyond to serve their clients’ needs.

The 2021 edition of the PBI Global Wealth Awards received entries from around the world representing four continents highlighting the best-in-class wealth management and private banking companies. The awards were judged across five category groups and recognised those organisations and individuals who showcased innovation, speed and efficacy of delivery and most importantly an exemplary commitment to customer needs and over-all contribution to the individual and larger community.

Among the key takeaways from the awards submissions in 2021 has been the resilience of the regional banking industry and their ability to develop innovative solutions and deliver new offerings in record times to help combat the financial implications on their customers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What happens next? With the global worries of the pandemic coming to a close later this year (hopefully), the private banking sector should be allowed to build.

Furthermore, it should allow wealthtech firms to finally make a play in the sector. Worried about the wealth manager during a pandemic? Well, our wealth app never gets ill and never turns off.

These firms are ready to make a success of themselves, but will huge private banks just allow that to happen? Consolidation in the market is sure to be widespread if these challengers gain any significant foothold.

It is an exciting time for the sector and I cannot wait to see what banks bring to the awards next year.
