The app combines digital onboarding with everyday banking services, giving customers a secure mobile route to open and manage their accounts
Mobile banking has become a crowded field. Most banks can point to stronger functionality, better interfaces and more self-service tools. But the more important question is whether customers use those tools in ways that change the shape of the business. For Bank ABC, its mobile banking app forms part of a wider digital transformation strategy aimed at supporting greater financial inclusion and moving more of the retail banking relationship onto mobile channels. Customers can open accounts digitally and access 38 core banking services through the app, expanding the range of transactions that can be completed without visiting a branch.
Launched in July 2024, the app leverages Bank ABC’s digital banking capabilities while tailoring its retail offering for customers in Egypt. Its purpose was practical: to give customers a seamless, instantly accessible mobile route into daily banking while reducing the time and paperwork associated with traditional account opening.
Streamlined services
The key change came in May 2025, when the bank added semi-digital onboarding. Customers could begin the account-opening journey in the app, enter their details digitally and complete legal signing either at a branch or during a bank visit. The process cut account-opening paperwork from 26 pages requiring 26 signatures to one dynamically pre-filled page.
In addition to streamlining account opening, the Bank ABC Egypt App has significantly strengthened digital engagement and overall customer experience, with nearly 34,000 customers using this app. This represents 100% of active customers using the bank’s digital channels.
The app’s transaction performance further strengthens this case. Transaction value through the app reached EGP3.2bn ($64.9m). Customers completed 142,056 transfers via mobile, compared with 27,806 through branch counters, resulting in 83.6% of transfers done through the app by the end of 2025.
Bank ABC Egypt recorded 15% growth in current and savings account deposits in 2025, with the bank linking part of the increase to adoption of the app. The growth also supports its wider push to strengthen CASA funding, reduce funding costs and broaden the deposit base. The app is extending beyond servicing into product sales, with 7,952 users also holding a Bank ABC credit card.
Meaningful transformation
The feature set was broad, but the evidence was stronger than a feature-count story. By the end of 2025, Bank ABC had 38 live retail features on the app covering daily services such as transfers, card freezing, card activation and other self-service functions. Those tools mattered because they translated into usage, acquisition and transaction migration.
That is what separated Bank ABC’s case. In a mobile banking category, the temptation is to focus on interface, convenience and innovation. Bank ABC Egypt’s stronger argument was more concrete. The Bank ABC Egypt App showed measurable changes in how customers joined the bank and how they carried out routine banking afterwards.
The approach also fits a wider retail banking priority in Egypt: reducing friction without removing the operational controls that still matter in account opening. Bank ABC Egypt did not eliminate the physical step entirely. It narrowed it, moved more of the process onto mobile and gave customers a less branch-heavy route into the bank. The result was a mobile app with a clear business role, not just a service role.
